Another young and ambitious ref to mentor last weekend. And this time a slightly difficult match. Mostly due to the home coach criticizing the ref all the time. I was positioned behind his dug-out, so registered everything in detail.

The ref in training was given only his second game in his training program, whereas his colleague junior refs had done 6 or 7 by now. Somehow he had been dropped from the roster, but he was glad to finally be on the pitch and with another mentor. He was asking all sorts of questions and tips in the dressing room, eager to learn from me.

Two consecutive weekends, football clubs around the country are invited to say ‘thanks’ to the amateur referee performing at their club. I’ve had only a few surprises during the last years (mostly at adult games) and decided not to expect anything.

Four and a half months and I’m back to ‘knee one’. The physical situation is similar to when it started in May: a swollen, stiff knee. The latest injection with double dosis steroid worked exactly four weeks.
